WHERE: Flatirons Elementary School (Near CU Boulder)
1150 7th St, Boulder, CO 80302
WHEN: 8:30 AM - 12:15 PM Monday-Friday
The three weeks are designed to be experienced individually or consecutively. Our daily camp program allows children to have focused activities indoors and outdoors – much needed in the summertime!
Week 1: June 9th-13th / Theme: “Allons-y! Travel to France and La Francophonie”
The first week will be an introduction to France and “La Francophonie” which is the French-speaking world. We will focus on the themes of travel, sightseeing, and learn verbal expressions and vocabulary that surround these experiences. We will create our own “passports” and engage in thematically appropriate games, songs, and outdoor activities that are fun and require our bodies to move!
(Check out our program for Day 1)
Week 2: June 16th-20th/ Theme: “Oh c’est bon! French Cuisine”
The second week will focus on the theme of food, meal preparation, and eating. We will learn about French cuisine, shopping for food, using money (euros), and preparing a meal. While our camp is not equipped to cook, we will take part in experiential activities such as a “play market” or “play restaurant” where we will take turns being the customer and/or seller/waiter with play money and play food. We will learn verbal expressions and cultural etiquette on this theme. We will engage in thematically appropriate games, songs, and outdoor activities that are fun and require our bodies to move!
Week 3: June 23rd-27th/ Theme: “Soyons-Créatifs! French Art”
The third week will focus on the theme of artistic creation. We will learn about French artists and dabble in creating art! We will learn verbal expressions and vocabulary that focus on talking about art and take part in an experiential project of creating a small exhibition for our classroom “museum.” We will learn about some of the greatest artistic themes in art history such as: impressionism, abstraction, pointillism, surrealism, and pop art/comic-making (la bande-desinée)! We will engage in thematically appropriate games, songs, and outdoor activities that are fun and require our bodies to move!
